Electricity markets, investment, and climate policy.
I am an engineer and economist who somehow ended up specialising in the intersection of electricity markets, investment, and climate policy — a niche more exciting than it sounds.
I’m a renewable-energy enthusiast with beliefs grounded in sound market design and credible investment incentives — though at present I’m investigating this further in the Mentawai Islands with my surfboard. I’ll get back to you in 12 business days.
I hold a Bachelor of Engineering (First Class Honours) in Operations Research from the University of Auckland and an MSc in the Economics of Energy, Climate Change and Sustainability from the Barcelona School of Economics. My research studied how cross-border interconnectors can improve welfare and accelerate renewable integration in Great Britain’s electricity market.
Before returning to academia, I worked at Drax on the commercial structure for a £2bn bioenergy with carbon capture and storage project (BECCS), advised on sustainability strategy at Ampersand Partners, and helped draft New Zealand’s national infrastructure strategy at the Infrastructure Commission.
At Carbon-Sense I write about the economics of the energy transition — how markets, investment, and policy collide in the messy business of decarbonising the world.
